Our mission is to increase the development assets of our youth (e.g. self-esteem, leadership, responsibility, restraint, conflict resolution, and cultural competence). Youth need to grow into caring, healthy, competent, and responsible adults and community citizens. Conducting Team Sports Leagues, Camps and Clinics allow us to teach goal setting, planning and decision making, perseverance, fair play, respect for others, team work, and other valuable life skills.
I would first like to thank the organizers for their great preparation for this Opening Day celebration. We have been successful and in existence for over 25 years. We are on to a good start this year; we just completed our 2nd Annual Martin Luther King youth basketball tournament with a bang!
This year, I am pleased to see, 16 teams of ages 3- 12 years old, 30 coaches, hundreds of team moms, dads and family member waiting to see these players compete fundamentally for the next two months. The league encompasses over 200 hundred volunteers including players, coaches, personal trainer, directors, and executive staff members.
One of the consistencies I see in my endeavor to continue the success of this program is the East Harris County and surrounding area youth need something to do. I have designated to continue as God has given me grace to do. It’s a great thing!
Youth sport activities provide physical activity and can teach us life skills. It teaches teamwork, it teaches us how to get along with others, and it teaches us to work together to achieve a common goal. Youth sport also helps us learn about coping with pressure and the need to stick with training in order to improve.
Everybody has a responsibility to work toward making communities safer. To achieve that goal all coaches and family members are asked to encourage these players. It is not all about winning a basketball game, it about making choices to WIN the game of life. If we work hard and closely together WE CAN make it happen.
I want to acknowledge all the directors and coaching staff for their good work done getting these players ready to learn the fundamental of the game and be ready to compete with their peers.
And now it only leaves me to wish all competitors good luck and to declare this
Opening Day the kick off to another great and successful season for all participants!
Thank you for your participation.
