Get Ready for Barrett Station’s 25th   

Homecoming Celebration Week

July 11-16th, 2011

 

The Barrett Station Civic League is anxiously preparing for the community’s most awesome parades and homecoming, ever!  As in the past, the Civic League officers and members are encouraging all local and former residents, classmates, family members and neighbors to come home and celebrate during this homecoming week.  This year’s theme is “Remembering When”. 

 

On Homecoming Day, a parade, variety of games, food and craft booths, local vendors, businesses and health fair will be held at the Riley Chambers Park -- all on the same day. Folks, this is the absolute biggest day of the year to display your products and/or services to all!  To rent a booth at the Riley Chambers Park, call the Community Center, at (281) 328-4713.

 

Some activities at the Park (i.e., following the parade on July 16th ) will include:

 

·                    Barrett Station Health Advisors - Health Fair (free admission – will be set up in the Riley Chambers Community Center.  Contact Kathra Arline, at (281) 328-1195.

 

·                    Awarding of Trophies to Parade Winners @ 11:00 p.m. – underneath the Pavilion - 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals will be awarded.  For parade entry forms, contact Kathy Bass (Homecoming Parade chairperson) at 281-328-4282.

 

·                    Live Entertainment, fun & much more!! Contact Melody Fontenot at (281) 670-8133 if you are interested in showcasing your talent at the Park.

 

Parade Lineup Information:

Parade participants will enter the Line up route, beginning at 9:00 a.m. from the county service road just north of Bobby’s Auto Shop; then take the first turn, left, on Gulf Pump Road where you will see the parade directors.

 

The parade will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. - proceeding south from FM 2100; then right on Red Oak and down to Holly Street, where participants will turn left.  From Holly, turn right onto Magnolia and proceed to Riley Chambers Park.

 

Feel free to enter your beautiful floats, boats, cars (-- all types, for example: classic, antique, custom painted, special detailing, trucks, wagons, etc. --), bikes, low-riders, four-wheelers and motorcycles.  Hobby car enthusiasts are welcome to enter with their hobby cars.

NOTE:  Proceeds from all of these benefits go toward providing scholarships for graduating high school seniors; community beautification and funding of much needed programs for the community of Barrett Station’s youth and senior citizens.

 

 


 

2011 BSCL Scholarship Opportunities  

 

All student applications for scholarships available through the Barrett Station Civic League, must be turned in by March 31, 2011.  

Questions and information regarding scholarship requirements may be picked up from the league's scholarship chair and vice president, Katie Reed Roberson, at (281) 328-5937.  Also, scholarship packets may be requested via email to melodyfontenot@BarrettStationCivicLeague.org , or picked up at Crosby High School, beginning March 11, 2010.  Also, you may simply click here to retrieve the form.

Community Spring Cleanup

2011 Date: May 7th

 

The Barrett Community and Harris County Precinct 2 has planned its next date for residents to gather all their usual acceptable throw-away items and bring them to the parking lot at Charles R. Drew Intermediate School for collection.  The county crew will be working with the community and the Civic League toward this much needed clean up effort on Saturday, May 7th, beginning at 7:30 a.m.  Please remember that hazardous items will not be accepted.

Rules:  the following Items Cannot Be Accepted:

    1)     Hazardous Materials (e.g., paint, gas tanks, used motor oil, etc.)

    2)     Limbs or brush

    3)     Refridgerants (e.g., ice boxes, air conditioners, free-on containers, etc.)

    4)     Roofing materials (e.g., shingles, asbestos boards with exposed nails, etc.)

    5)     Drums (e.g., unmarked or containing burnt materials)

    6)     Household Refuse (not accepted unless it is in bags)

           Note:         There will be no exceptions to the

                               unacceptable items listed above!!

Community volunteers are needed.  Drivers with trucks and trailers will be much appreciated in making our efforts a big success.
